Severe Mange Case - Holistic Treatment ProgressChatting with our friends at the BSAPP animal welfare centre, Michelle discovered that they had saved a young female dog from the streets who, according to the vet, only had about 2 days left to live because her condition was so severe.
So of course Michelle offered to foster her for a while and treat her with classical homeopathy and these are the interim results. The volunteers at the BSAPP had all fallen in love with her by that time, so sweet is her nature and they named her Shakira.
HOSPITAL CARE: Shaki was taken to the hospital on 20th June 2009 and spent 2 weeks there. During those 2 weeks she received the following treatment: Standard IV (physiological solution) initially as they were concerned she was very emaciated and 'worn out'. IV didn't contain any medicines. A skin test revealed Demodex canis. Her skin was covered in dark grey scab like rough bumps; some bloody from scratching. Some areas of skin (particularly chest, tummy and front feet) were inflamed and sore. She smelt extremely unpleasant and also had a dry cough. She was given both Cephalexin (antibiotics) and Ivermectin at increasing dosages. HOLISTIC CARE:Michelle picked her up from the hospital on 5th July, and much to the concern and amazement of the hospital staff refused the rest of the course of medication as in homeopathy the more chemicals you put into the body, the harder it is to overcome the original condition. 5th July Shaki was immediately put on a species appropriate, prey-model raw diet to help her body become naturally healthy She was also started on a month's course of Diatomaceous Earth, which is a natural dewormer and also being a fossil flour has the added advantage or replacing trace minerals into the body. 9th July
HOMEOPATHIC CARE:Once Michelle felt some of the toxins from the hospital treatment had been eliminated by a natural diet, Shaki was assessed by a specialist Classical Homeopath Consultant in the United States using a detailed questionnaire and test results taken here, and it was established that Shaki was suffering from neurological and auto-immune disease which is the likely cause of the mange. Her first dose of liquid medicine (homeopathic medicinal solution) was given on 12th July and within just a couple of days we started to see new fur. 16th July By 16th July quite a lot of new fur had started to grow... Over the coming weeks and months further doses of homeopathic medicinal solution were given, (usually around the fortnightly period) and her new fur growth just kept getting stronger and stronger! 23rd July 23rd August 15th September
Latest Update - November After such fantastic early results we were disappointed to find that Shakira's skin stopped improving further towards the end of August and today she is still suffering flare-ups of the mange as the root cause of the mange, her auto-immune disease, is preventing full recovery and we have realised that the long road to fixing her auto-immune disease is upon us. With our original emergency funds completely exhausted, we now need to raise more money to be able to continue her treatment if she is to become mange free for the rest of her life. CAMPAIGN TARGET: €640 RAISED TO DATE: €30 (as at 1st Nov 2009) Breakdown of costs: Fully insulated house: 75 One of the most important expenses we need right now is to cover the expenses for the materials to fully insulate her house in time for winter as we get temperatures of around -30 ºC here as well as buy extra thick fleecy blankets to help keep her warm while we wait for her fur to thicken up. Long term, due to it being very hard to find permanent homes for dogs in Bulgaria, we would like to hopefully find her a new home somewhere in Western Europe where homeopathy is more widely used which would be helpful for Shakira’s future health needs. So, in order to pay for any transportation costs any excess money from her fund will be put aside for this. If anyone is in a position to offer Shakira a new home, in any country whatsoever, please contact us and we will be more than glad to organise this as it will give us the greatest of pleasure to find her a loving forever home. If you would like to contribute to Shaki's treatment fund and help her overcome her auto-immune disease to become mange free permanently please use the button below to donate as much or as little as you can. Thank you!
Alternatively you may like to sponsor Shaki's treatment on a monthly basis. If you would like to sponsor Shaki's treatment, we will set up reoccurring monthly payments of 15, 10 or 5 euros, whichever you decide, through Paypal. Your sponsorship will continue until you decide to cancel.
Your kindness is appreciated more than we may ever know! 14th October 2009
